Constance (Cassady) Wagner

Born in Pittsburgh, PA, in 1903, Constance Wagner (born Florence Reynolds) grew up in New York City but went to art school in Chicago. Her first published work was an alphabet book in verse for children. It was followed by another book for children, Kitchen Magic. Her short stories and articles appeared in periodicals such as the New Yorker and the Atlantic between 1935 and 1964. She was the author of several published novels, including five published ones. Between 1942 and 1953, in 1960-64 and again in 1971-79 she lived in northwest Arkansas. Between 1965 and 1970 she was Assistant Editor at Books Abroad (now World Literature Today), where her book reviews appeared regularly in that University of Oklahoma journal. In the early 1980s she wrote occasional columns for the Oakland Tribune. She was the mother of four children. She died in 1984 in San Leandro, CA.
