Edward Joseph Hollingsworth Greene (1913 -)

French Canadian (Montréal, Québec) born E. J. H. Greene known for his biographies on Marivaux and T. S. Eliot.

On the 8 June 1942 he joined the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserves as a Temporary Sub-Lieutenant (Special Branch).

Edward, who had been corresponding with Thomas Stearns Eliot (1888-1965) since 1939 wrote his 248 page doctoral thesis on Eliot which he finished in 1948 and presented to the University to the Faculty of Arts of Paris in 1951.

In 1965 he produced his biography 'Marivaux' on the French Parisian journalist, novelist and dramatist Pierre Carlet de Marivaux (1699-1763).
