Laligam N. Sekhar, MD, FACS, FAANS, based at Harborview Medical Center, Seattle, Washington, is a Professor at the University of Washington and Vice-Chairman of the Department of Neurological Surgery. He is a past president of the World Federation of Skull Base Societies and a past president of the Washington State Association of Neurological Surgeons.

Dr. Sekhar received his M.D. from Madras Medical College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. He completed an internship at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Chicago, Illinois, and residencies at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He subsequently completed fellowships at Hospital Foch, Suresnes, France; Institute of Neurology and National Hospital, London, England; Nordstadt Hospital, Hanover, Germany; and University Hospital of Zurich, Switzerland.

Dr. Sekhar is known for his expertise in treating complex neurosurgical disorders, particularly cerebrovascular disorders (aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations), cerebral revascularization (for intractable ischemia), skull base tumors (acoustic neuromas, meningiomas, chordomas), complex brain tumors (deep-seated or difficult), and microvascular compression disorders (trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm, disabling vertigo). He is also an expert in the performance of brain bypasses. His research interests include robotics and their application to medicine, stem cell therapies to improve outcomes for neurosurgical patients, continuous quality improvement in vascular and skull base neurosurgery, and the use of AI for neurosurgical applications.
