Dr. Narendra Mohan ,Eminent Poet, Playwright and critic, Date of Birth: 30th July, 1935, LAHORE (Now in Pakistan)

Educational Qualifications - B.A. HONS : Graduated with Hons. In HINDI, standing FIRST in the University, from Punjab University, Chandigarh in 1956. M.A.: Hindi Examination in second class from Punjab University, in 1958. Ph.D. Modern Hindi Poetry (Adhunik Hindi Kavita Mein Aprastut Vidhan) from Punjab University, in 1966. Specialization: Modern Hindi Poetry, Modern Hindi Fiction.

Teaching Experience- First appointment as Lecturer in Hindi at Khalsa College, Ludhiana in 1958. Thereafter, served in different Panjab Colleges and University (Panjab Agricultural University) as Lecturer and Asstt. Professor, teaching to B.A. and Hons. Classes for 7 years. Then moved to Delhi and joined S.G.T.B. Khalsa College in January 1967, teaching B.A. Hons. and M.A. classes (1967-88) .Joined as Reader in Hindi in Hindi Deptt, University of Delhi in 1988. Taught to M.A. and M.Phil classes. till final retirement on 14.7.2000

Social and Cultural Activities- General Secretary (1980-85) Association of Indian Writers, President (1997- 1999) Association of Indian writers, Editor of a literary Journal Sanchetna for 5 years (1969-73), Sahitya Akedemi's North Zone Volume 'UTTARA':Edited one Volume.

Standing in Literature- Flair for writing from an early age. First poem and article was published in 1954. Then on, Poems and articles found place in prestigious literary Volumes at that time and by 1960, He became well known in literary circles.

he gradually emerged as a major Poet, Playwright and critic. Published seven collections of poems, six plays, ten books of literary criticism and fifteen edited books on various themes and genres. Poems, plays and critical articles have been translated into Punjabi, Urdu, Marathi, English and other Indian languages. Especially known for works ligendary Urdu writer Manto. Nine books on different facets of his creative and critical formulations have been written/ edited by contemporary writers and scholars and these have been acclaimed as significant contribution to Hindi Literature.

Proficient in Punjabi and English. Published in Panjabi there Plays, one collection of Poems and in English one book entitled "The Eternal No : Protest and Literature". Narendra Mohan's Rachnavli (Complete works of Narendra Mohan 2006, in Eight Volumes).

Literary trend-setter- Trend setter of two movements in Hindi Poetry called 'Vichar Kavita' and 'Lambi Kavita'. First to start a discourse on Partition and Indian stories.

Awards and Honous- 'Shiromoni Sahityakar 1995' Honour by Punjab Govt. Hindi Academy, Delhi award on his play 'Kahe Kabir Suno Bhai Sadho'. First Prize on his Collection of poems 'Iss Hadsy Mein' by Language Deptt. Punjab. All India Award by Ministry of Eduction, Govt. of India on his books of criticism 'Samkaleen Kahani Ki Pahchan. Haryana Sahitya Academi's award on his book of criticism 'Kavita Ki Vycharik Bhumika'. First Prize on a book of criticism 'Adhunikta Aur Samkaleen Rachana Sandarbh' by language Deptt. Punjab. First Prize on a book of criticism 'Adhunikta Ke Sanadarbh Mein Hindi Kahani' by Hindi Sansthan, Govt. of Uttar Pradesh. The staging of his play Mr. Jinnah under the direction Arvind Gaur, was scheduled on 22nd, 23rd June 2005. It was banned on 21st June, 2005. The play was however staged at different Theatre Centers throughout the country and was translated into many Indian Languages.
