Birth Date: 6 Jan 1874

Sydney Fowler Wright was born in the Kings Norton district of Birmingham. He attended school until age eleven, at which point he worked full time. He spent his spare time studying literature, and in 1917 he helped found the Empire Poetry League and edited its journal, Poetry. In 1918, his first wife, Nellie, died, and two years later he married Truda Hancock. In the 1920s, he began writing science fiction. In 1924, his novel, The Amphibians was published. He continued to write and publish science fiction novels and short stories, using fantastical beings to criticize modern civilization. In 1934, he visited Nazi Germany and was inspired to write three novels about a future war in Europe. He died in 1965.
