Expatriate Painters Relations Mexican Painting

"On the occasion of the visit of the President of Catalonia to Mexico in Dec. 1991-Jan. 1992, the Generalitat and the Comissió Amèrica i Catalunya organized this exhibition, which included nine artists: three Mexicans (Tamayo, Felguerez, Cuevas), three Catalonians who emigrated to Mexico (Bartolí, Peyrí, Rojo), and three Catalonians who live and work in Catalonia (Casamada, Guinovart, Amat). In addition to solid biographical information, the carefully assembled publication includes many articles by prestigious art critics and literary figures, such as Marta Traba, Octavio Paz, and Alvaro Mutis. Montserrat Galí Boadella's essay on the cultural relationship between Catalonia and Mexico, particularly during the Spanish Civil War, is noteworthy. Well illustrated in b/w and color. In Catalan and Spanish"--Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 58.
