1608-1674 Characters Angels In Literature

"John Milton's Paradise Lost has been the subject of many texts. Like authors before him, Larry Isitt felt compelled to pursue the mystery of Milton's "anti-Biblical" style, while deciphering Milton's theology at the same time. All the Names in Heaven, the result of Isitt's exhaustive efforts, lists and highlights more than 2,200 names and close to 250 similes referred to in each book of Milton's epic.

Divided into three sections, the text offers readers a comprehensive overview of the names and similes, including the number and percentages for each type of name and simile. Included in the text is a complete catalog of all the names in Paradise Lost listed book by book, as well as chapters devoted exclusively to one name (e.g., the Son, the Father).

Discussion of Milton's epic and simple similes is arranged in tables that show the number, types, and speaker of similes, as well as the number of similes occurring in a location, such as Heaven or Hell."--BOOK JACKET.
