Years after alcoholism drove Avery Wells from his career as a film editor, he finds himself back in San Francisco to finish editing a film called Americana. But as soon as the film is completed, a sudden act of violence turns Avery's prospective sobriety into relapse, and makes him question the motivations of his family and coworkers.
