Asrār-ul-Haq Majāz (1911-1955) was a distinguished poet of the progressive movement of Indian writers started before independence (1947). Despite his short span of life, his contribution was important due to the effectiveness and attractiveness of his poetry. His style is soft, simple and beautiful using innovative forms. Besides representing the truly progressive thoughts, the poetry of Majaz reflects the romanticism, political turmoil and the changing values of life and literature of his times.

The writer, Prof. Shārab Radaulvi, is a retired professor and senior Urdu critic who had taught Urdu Literature at Delhi University and Jawahar Lal University (New Delhi). His published works include 13 books and he has received several awards and honours.
