The first hospital, under the watchful eye of Fr. Berghold, was dedicated in November 1883. The building was 36 x 36 feet, two stories high, plus a basement. The first floor contained six patient rooms heated by stoves in the hallways. The Sisters of Christian Charity were in charge of the hospital.
