The author, Raza Ali Abdi (b. 1936, Roorkee), a British of Pakistani origin settled in London, is particularly known for his radio documentaries on the Grand Trunk (G.T.) Road and the River Indus. His published works include travelogues and several collections of cultural essays and short stories. He has worked with the BBC Urdu Service and retired in 1996 as its Head.
