Non-Violent Models in Violent Communities

This important study is an award-winning monograph dealing with what interventions work (and what do not) in high crime Black neighborhoods. The focus of the work is on the activity on non-violent community organizations particularly the role of Christian Community Development Organizations (CCDOs) and their activities. This book explores the crime-preventive role of these types of organizations, the role of race in leadership and service delivery, and their strategies of crime prevention. Dr.

Jones begins with an historical perspective, analyses tactics and activities and the interactions that have influenced the emergence of a crime preventive role for this organization.

The religious community development organizations in African-American areas have never been seriously examined as catalysts for community crime prevention in criminogenic communities and as role models for civic revival. This work will be of interest to researchers in Criminal Justice, Religious Studies, African-American Studies, Sociology, Social Work and Urban Studies.
