Records related to slavery from the Exchequer, and its related bodies

In 1781, the captain of the slave ship Zong threw 250 sick slaves off the ship in order to collect insurance on the lost "cargo." From the Zong Massacre, two court cases emerged. Researchers interested in the massacre and subsequent cases will find information in E 112/1528, which has the Court of Exchequer Bill of Complaint, and E 127/47, which contains the injunction order from the Court of King's Bench.
