This book contains information about what Northup's life was like in New York before and after the nearly 12 years that he was a slave in Louisiana. Northup was lured away from Saratoga Springs, NY in 1841, and sold as a slave. In 1853, Northup was rescued and authored a book about his experiences titled Twelve Years a Slave.
