This is the first in a series of five "Story of Atari" books with read-along audio recordings, each book has black and white illustrations on each page, as well as the text of the story. This is a story book that tells of a Zardonian defense officer, Ed Mathews. Whom helps to start up a new desert base, with a co-worker named Sarah Cochrane, which have the mission of guarding against a Krytolian attack. During a sand storm a stranger named Commander Kramer arrives, but who's orders have been lost. They are then attacked, and as Ed and Sarah look for damage they discover a ship with another Commander in it. Commanders Stark and Kramer accuse each other of being a fake, then Stark the new arrival grabs Sarah around the neck, but Ed knowing Stark to be an android sends out a computer frequency that disables the android. Another attack was then started, they destroy all the in coming missiles, except the last one that was a homing missile and directed by the androids body. Kramer then saves them from the explosion, and they are taken to the hospital. This book and audio set is not to be confused by another separate project by Kid Stuff a similarly titled "Missile Command" a 12 inch (30.5 centimeters) record KSS-5031 with completely different story, no book and songs. This book was released with a 7 inch (17.5 cm) record, played in 33 1/3 revolutions per minute KSR-941, and cassette tape KSC-88941.

This book is part of the Kid Stuff Records/Golden Books video game audio stories series.
