Ṭeveriah ṿe-toshavehah ha-ʻAravim be-yeme ha-shilṭon ha-briṭi 1918-1948 = Tiberias and its Arab population during the British Mandate

The book discusses the history of Tiberias and its Arab inhabitants during British rule between 1918 and 1948. The book, which relies on unexplored archival sources, sheds new light on the history of the city's Arab inhabitants, who towards the end of the mandate were about half of its population. In this context, the book delves into the social, demographic, political and economic changes that the Arabs of Tiberias underwent under British rule. It examines the role of the Arab elite in leading the Tiberi family in running the city, and its relations with the British on the one hand and with the Jewish neighbors on the other. The discussion of the Arabs of Tiberias is presented as part of the overall discussion of the city's history, including its Jewish residents. The book demonstrates the existence of Tiberias as a mixed city, whose almost all systems, except the religious ones, operated in common and in good relations that were praised on all sides. The institutions of the administration and the municipality, the fields of commerce and economy, fishing, tourism and recreation were meeting points and connection between the two parts of the population. The book discusses key questions that have not hitherto received in-depth research such as who were the Arabs of Tiberias, what characterized them demographically and socially and who led them during the Mandate, what were their sources of existence and what was the nature of religious life in the city. The book examines in depth the nature of the relationship between the city's Arabs and the rural Arab home front of Tiberias, what was the nature of their relationship with their Jewish neighbors before the War of Independence in 1948, what happened during the war and why the old city was destroyed including the Jewish Quarter. Tiberias to this day.
