As a young and inexperienced girl Nora du Cayne had given up everything for love. She had to learn to adapt herself to life in the Latin Quarter of Paris. She had endured a tempestuous relationship and an exciting, yet crazy life that swung like a pendulum from good to bad, and back again. In her old age, she recounts a crowded and eventful life, full of trials and tribulations interspaced with happiness, and muses on what might have been if only she had led a quieter existence.
