Susan responded eagerly to Raoul Sansterre's toast. Was she toasting the adventure of opening up Thurstan Hall as a high class restaurant, or the exciting prospect of getting to know this suave, handsome Frenchman who was to mange it? Gradually Susan realized that without Raoul nothing would be an adventure, but she couldn't help thinking that he was more interseted in Thurston Hall than in her.
