[The Lockwood family story]

The Lockwood Family Story: Echoes from the Archives, a book in five volumes, is the history of two English brothers and their descendants. One brother moved to Iowa in 1857 and the other became a wealthy shipbuilding magnate in England. Whereas the descendants of one became settlers and the builders of a new county, their cousins in England became or married influential industrialists, physicians and politicians. Robert Barrett Lockwood moved with his family of six children from London, England to Worthington, Iowa in 1857. His wife’s brother, Longridge Barnett, and his family had preceded the Lockwoods to Iowa by about 5 years. Between the two immigrant English families there were 14 children; by 1908 there were 72 grandchildren. The five volumes of Echoes from the Archives tell the stories of these families in well-researched detail with copies of photos and letters.

The Lockwood/Barnett Collection is a collection of research materials that Mary Lockwood Laughlin used to write The Echoes from the Archives, a family history of these two families. The five books of Echoes from the Archives and the research collection are available for download at no cost https://www.dropbox.com/sh/c3fsskxup89z20k/EzJP4GsntF and the entire collection is stored at the University of Iowa Library Women’s Archives.
