An expose of the cover-up / conspiracy ***** (see below) that to this day (July 2013) still attempts to perpetuate the myth that Captain Scott was a national hero.
"It recounts the remarkable exploits of Dundee's ice master, Captain Harry McKay, whose experience of rescuing ships locked in pack ice with the aid of his new explosive techniques made him the Admiralty's choice to free Captain Scott aboard Discovery from this fate in the Antarctic in 1904."..."[McKay] blasted 18 miles of ice to free Scott. It is one of the most incredible Antarctic feats ever performed but it has been overlooked for close on a century."
To quote from the books Foreword written by Jeff Lonsdale (former director of the Scottish Development Agency in Dundee) it was "Aldridge [who] had given us total justification for bringing Discovery back to her home city".
Don Aldridge had "an international reputation in the field of conservation. He served as chairman of the Council of Europe's Environmental Education Committee and directed the education work of the Countryside Commission for Scotland. He has lectured in many countries and published widely in the literature. An experienced mountaineer, he overwintered in the Arctic as a glaciologist on a four man expedition and was editor of the British Mountaineering Council's journal."
(Sceptics - simply search for a review of this book... theres only one.... Prof Baughman's Review Gosh, on publication the powers-that-be quickly trotted out a Professor (rated 44th of the 57 rated History Profs at the University of Central Oklahoma honestly ! ) to say what he presumably always says i.e. "Its a really terrible book! A mediocre student could have written a much better one which arrived at the opposite and 'correct' Scott-as-Hero conclusion without wasting years on research!" Don actually had a sense of humour I'm sure he would have laughed", I remember the number of times he was given the runaround by the London authorities, it did not deter him. Note the review doesn't mention the Discovery, still less that dump Dundee where the plebs claim to have rescued a genuine HERO! ).
