The tranquil fate of Lilia Cantú is torn apart when a drug lord rapes her and shames her into marriage. She later escapes to a small desert town on the Mexican/Texas border where it seems as if the past co-exists with the present, and a fortune-teller predicts she will fall in love three times. She becomes torn between two men---Javier San Andrés, a composer, and Miguel Treviño---who have a mysterious connection to Miguel’s near death by drowning years before.
Part Science fiction, part historical romance, the story examines the relationship between desire, identity, and reality.
