Robert M. Coates

Boyhood Inventors Gold Mining

Memoir of New Yorker art critic Robert Coates. Follows Coate's along as he and his mother travel the country to follow pater's mining and engineering adventures. This is a generally happy book about a boy growing into manhood. No sturm or drang. Not a lot of details about the early New Yorker. I doubt I ever read any of Coate's art criticism, but I enjoyed this book.

Several chapters detail Coates' early cars and their eccentricities. I imagine old car lovers would appreciate more than I.
