Picturing pictures of pictorial art. Pictures initiate inquisitive curiosity, they provoke questions about sense and content, aesthetic quality, artistic and art-historical parallels. Such emotions and experiences before a picture demand rationalisation, explanation, confirmation, correction, setting in context.
