Gary Taubes is a science writer and researcher who wanted to know exactly why some people get fat while others, eating more and exercising less, stay skinny.
His reading took him through the last two centuries of dealing with the problem and the results were contrary to what many physicians say, ie. that weight loss occurs when you eat less and exercise more. What he discovered is that Dr. Atkins was right all along. A diet of meat that includes significant amounts of fat can be very healthy for most people. A diet that majors on carbohydrates leads to adiposity.
Not content with simply stating his findings, Taubes recounts study after study that support his conclusions. Well worth the read even if you can't find a doctor to support your trying it.
