World War II in the Air

James F. Sunderman

Operation Sea Lion Operation Strangle Operation Dynamo

A definitive and full account of the air war that occurred in the ETO. The book is comprised of excerpts from other novels, aviation magazines, or flier's memoirs who specifically wrote sections for this book. The book is broken down into (6) relatively chronological sections from 1939 - 1945.

The stories are riveting; all of which were equally thrilling. Some accounts had me biting my nails in anticipation.

Author truly did an excellent job selecting his works. Furthermore, the photos and graphics accentuate the account of the human drama and three levels of warfare: operational, strategic, and tactical. One part it lacked in was the Eastern Front. There was some dedication to this but I imagine a little more could be devoted to this.

Lastly, the book conveyed a feeling of that classic pilot confidence and swagger; especially at the end of the novel. This in no way hindered the reading of the novel but certainly enforced the critical nature of the air war in Europe and the eventual dominance of the Allies in the air.
